Amenities


Residents living in and around Tailwind Estates Airpark will enjoy a good quality of life due to the friendly, rural lifestyle and the absence of the frantic pace normally associated with urban residency. On-site there are many miles of nature trails, soccer pitches and a clubhouse with community common areas and adjacent tennis courts. The Airpark has also many other amenities in close proximity that make it an attractive place work, live and play.
 

 
The Carp Airport
 
The Carp Airport has a paved runway of approximately 4,000 feet; a gravel runway of approximately 2,200 feet and two active taxiways.  There is a non-precision approach on the east end of the paved runway, with runway and taxiway lighting is radio controlled. The airport offers first-class snow removal from the runways and taxiways in the winter. A new airport terminal was recently constructed by WCD to provide much-need passenger/pilot facility and aviation support services including:
  • Reception
  • Commercial-grade washrooms
  • AVgas and Jet-A fuel
  • Aircraft hangar storage
  • Large aircraft apron
  • Weather and flight-planning area
  • Parking area
  • Airport management office

Nearby Population Centres
 
The Village of Carp is a quiet farming town located on the banks of the Carp River, approximately 3 kilometres north of Tailwind Estates Airpark. With the amalgamation of municipal governments in the region in 2001, Carp is now governed as part of the new city of Ottawa. The area in and around the village has a number of restaurants, a post office, bank, drug store, bakery and a Home Hardware store as well as a number of other small businesses. Other significnat population centers include Kanata and Stittsville.
 
Heritage/Historical
 
The nearby village of Carp is home to the Carp Fair, one of the most popular agricultural fairs in Eastern Ontario held each fall since 1880. Carp also hosts a large, seasonal farmers' market held from May to October. The Diefenbunker, Canada's Cold War Museum, is located within the village boundaries and is a popular attraction with locals as well out-of-town visitors. Other historical sites include the Cheshire Cat Pub and Pakenham’s historical bridge.
 
Safety
 
Fire fighting and paramedic services to the area are provided by a volunteer fire department in the Village of Carp. Police services are provided by the Ottawa Police. The Tailwind Estates Airpark will have charged water hydrants to facilitate fire fighting.
 
Schools
 
There are presently three grade schools in area of Tailwind Estates Airpark and all are either inside or close to, the Village of Carp. They are:
  • Huntley Centennial Public School under the control of the Ottawa Carleton School Board covers grades 1-8;
  • St. Michael (Corkery) Catholic School under the control of the Ottawa Carleton Catholic School Board covers grades 1-8; and
  • Venta Preparatory School, a small, independent co-educational day and boarding school for students grades 1-10.
There are no high schools in the immediate area. Secondary school students travel to West Carleton High school Dunrobin or All Saints High School in Kanata.

Churches

There are a number of churches in the area to serve the spiritual and religious needs of residents. These include:
  • St. Paul's United Church (Presbyterian);
  • Celebration Centre (Baptist);
  • St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
Sports and Recreation
 
Recreation in and around the Carp Airport Lands is diverse as one would expect in a rural setting. There are approximately 12 golf courses with 10 miles of the Tailwind Estates Airpark including:
  • Irish Hills Golf and Country Club;
  • Loch March Golf and Country Club;
  • Emerald Links Golf and Country Club;
  • The Marshes Golf Club;
  • Kanata Soccer Centre.
Hockey, as in most rural areas, is a popular pastime for both children and adults. Indoor hockey arena in the area of Tailwind Estates is the Erskine Johnston indoor hockey arena in Carp and the new multi-purpose recreational facility with indoor ice arena at the Kinburn Client Center.
 
There are many recreational programs for residents in the area including soccer, ringette, hockey, figure skating, football, and baseball leagues and clubs. The Guiding and Scouting movements and 4-H clubs are also very active.
 
There are also a number of indoor arenas in the larger area including some in Stittsville and Kanata.
There are a number of horseback riding stables in the area including, Quarry Park; Stonecrest Stables; Pinto Valley Ranch; Donald Foley Stables; Splendara Stables.
