Yellow Wings over Carp Fair
14-09-2011
CARP, ON. West Capital Developments (WCD), the owners and operators of the Carp Airport, will host several vintage aircraft trainers of the Second World War era on September 24th, to commemorate the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP).

Were pleased to have the Yellow Wings Tour at the Carp Airport, said John Phillips, President of West Capital Developments. As important as our Airpark is to the future of the Carp Airport, it was the success of the BCATP that created the airport in the first place.
The visiting aircraft, owned and operated by Vintage Wings of Canada, include the North American Harvard, Fleet Finch, Fleet Cornell, and the Boeing Stearman. The planes are part of the Yellow Wings Tour currently making stops at various Canadian aerodromes that once served as a BCATP training school or station including the Carp Airport.
The aircraft will arrive at approximately 9:30 a.m. and will be on static display for the public until approximately 5:00 p.m. at the West Capital Developments ramp, 1500 Thomas Argue Road, Carp. In addition, a free shuttle service will be available from the airport to the Carp Fair between 10:00a.m. and 8:00p.m.
The BCATP was a massive wartime undertaking in which approximately 210,000 aircrew were trained from 1940 - 1944 on Canadian soil, said Rob Fleck, President of Vintage Wings. These trainers have been proudly showcased from as far west as British Columbia and will now tour throughout Ontario where many aerodromes played a pivotal role in preparing the commonwealth nations for war.
Vintage Wings mission is to commemorate military veterans and to pay homage to the contribution these men and women made during the Second World War, many of whom paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom Canadians enjoy today. Keeping alive Canada s aviation heritage through the Yellow Wings Tour allows Vintage Wings to educate Canadians and to inspire younger generations in the pursuit their dreams.
In order to share the experience of flight in one of these unique vintage trainers, Vintage Wings offers a sponsored ride program whereby anyone from the general public can join to become a member of the organization. Members can sponsor a flight that can be enjoyed or donated to a friend, family member or even a WWII veteran.
